Systematica acted as Specialist Consultants to the studio Renzo Piano Building Workshop on this project concentrating on five main themes:
<1> the road networks
<2> fast public transport
<3> the railway infrastructure
<4> the port infrastructure
<5> the airport infrastructure

Themes relating to the traffic infrastructure in an area as complex as Genoa demand various different approaches. Some are linked to the most traditional evaluations backed up by solid scientific statistics, others are linked to the “vision” of the future city, to the different possible means of transport and the different behavioural patterns of the resident population and of the city users. The first part of the analysis refers to a temporary scenario for the medium term which will be worked around the planned interventions for the traffic of the territory. .For this phase solutions were identified using both traditional-type simulation programmes (based on four-stage models) as well as innovative types (dynamic-stochastic simulations).

The second part of the analysis foresaw the organisation of the traffic for the city of Genoa for a long-term scenario. This phase involved illustrating current research in the transport sector and exploring potential applications in the territory with forms and time scales that differ from the present situation.
