<Date> 2004-2005

Specialist consultancy for the accessibility study and the parking system for the new Florence Belfiore High-speed Railway Station.Systematica acted as specialist consultant for the winners of the international design competition (Arup and Foster + Partners).

The activities were divided into three successive phases.

<1> The first phase analysed and evaluated the design documents for the traffic outside the terminal with the aim of identifying the volume of traffic that would be involved in the traffic system of the project area. The potential problematic issues within the project design were identified in this phase by taking into account the analyses of the planning tools on different scales and the consequent coherence with the design, by estimating the vehicle traffic in the area produced by the high-speed railway station and the new functions and by estimating the necessary number of parking bays and establishing whether it matched the design project.

<2> The second phase saw the detailed analysis of the geometrical and functional specifications of the traffic infrastructure related to the railway terminal, paying particular attention to identifying the correct working of the road sections, the connections, the external pedestrian routes and the road traffic circulation system by using the simulation software Autotrack.

<3> In the third phase a vehicle traffic model was created using the simulation software S-Paramics. This was used to test the working of the network surrounding the railway terminal.
