Traffic and parking plan in the Rome Historical Centre, Tridente Area
Systematica, on behalf of Rome Local Authority, developed a traffic and parking plan for the Tridente area in Rome, one of the most fascinating and challenging areas of the entire historical core of the Eternal City. The planning philosophy is based on the development of a comprehensive traffic calming scheme with new wide pedestrian areas (Piazza del Popolo, Via del Corso, Piazza di Spagna) and on the reorganisation of all on street parking and the creation of new off street parking structures.
The main objectives of the plan were:
<1> Develop a new circulation strategy for the different transport modes (private cars, public transport, taxis, deliveries, etc.)
<2> Enhancement of pedestrian areas through the creation of an estensive, safe and continuous pedestrian network- Reorganisation of on street parking.
<3> Overall reduction of traffic volumes entering the study area, through the extension of traffic controlled zones.
<4> Overall reduction of pollution and car and pedestrian accidents.
