Within the PLAMADUR (Plan Maestro de Desarrollo Urbano; Master Plan for Urban Development) for the capital of El Salvador and the surrounding municipalities the question of accessibility with different means of transport assumed particular importance.
The work undertaken identified the network of hierarchicial levels and the definition of an organic framework of infrastructural support available for the Plan. Wherever possible the exisiting railway was reconsidered and given a strong support role to the difficult traffic situation in San Salvador.
Particular attention was given to accessibility to the principle urban functions – both existing ones and new constructions – as there wasn’t the time to construct a journey matrix.
