Systematica and ARUP for Christo & Jeanne-Claude The Floating Piers

Sys-News_15-04-24

For just over two weeks, in June 2016, floating walkways lined with bright yellow fabric will create a walkway around Lago d’ Iseo, in Lombardia, joining the mainland to the lake island Montisola.
Titled “The Floating Piers,” the project was presented by Christo and the Italian art critic and curator Germano Celant at MAXXI in Rome on 22/04/2015. Visitors will be able to walk on the work, atop some 200,000 fabric-lined floatable cubes stretching for almost two miles.

Arup and Systematica were designated for the development of the feasibility study of the Project and its technical organisation. In particular, Systematica studied the strategies of mobility for managing the expected flows of visitors to the Project.

The participation of Systematica in such important and unique work of art marks the first real interaction between the technical know-how of the firm and world of Contemporary Art.
