The Riyadh Foot Bridge Network Project consists mainly in the development of a network of foot bridges capable of leveraging the huge potentials of the metro line development in the city of Riyadh.

Considering the weather conditions in Riyadh during most of the months of the year, the project is aimed to encourage walkability through providing climate-controlled connections from the metro stations to other transport modes stations to populated residential neighbourhoods.

The study shows how a minimal intervention, with a relatively low cost, can increase the metro stations’ catchment area by increasing the number of potential users and improving multimodal connectivity among different public and private transit modes. The idea stems from several other examples implemented in other cities, with tough weather conditions, that witnessed success in increasing public transport ridership and improved commercial success of private initiatives affected by the pedestrian network.
