Rifai collaborates with Systematica since 2020 acting as a Consultant. He is mainly involved in several international projects in Europe, the Middle East, China, and the US. – working at different scales, from master plans to city-wide scale projects to complex buildings, with a focus on urban regeneration, urban design, soft mobility, and innovative public transport strategies.
Rifai holds an experience of several years, working first in Beirut with “Bernard Khoury / DW5”, and then in Milan with “OBR Open Building research”.
In addition to his time abroad, he has also gained regional experience in urban design and development of public projects through his time in Beirut with “ECC Engineers Consulting & Contracting SARL”.
Rifai’s work lies at the intersection between research and design – he currently collaborates and teaches at the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies at the Politecnico di Milano.
Most recently he was shortlisted to curate the Lebanese Pavilion at the Venice Biennale of Architecture 2021, entitled “How will we live together?”
Rifai is proficient in speaking four languages (English, French, Italian, and Arabic) that have strengthened his communication skills with various disciplines and stakeholders, and have facilitated his understanding of different norms, regulations, and cultures in the countries where he is operating in.
