Systematica is proud to sponsor the Fabio Casiroli Award, dedicated to our founder, a forerunner and a visionary in the field of urban and transport planning.

The award will be issued at this year’s European Transport Conference (ETC), organized by the Association for European Transport (AET), taking place in Antwerp from 17–19 September 2025 (https://aetransport.org/awards). It will recognize the best paper on time-based urban mobility—a concept that Fabio pioneered through decades of research, teaching, and practice.

In his influential 2008 work Khronopolis. Accessible City, Feasible City”, Fabio challenged the traditional focus on speed and distance, advocating instead for time as a key metric in planning more livable, equitable, and sustainable cities.

Fabio Casiroli’s work took him across Europe, Latin America, Africa, and Asia. He founded Systematica in 1989 and was a long-time Visiting Professor at Politecnico di Milano, where he shaped generations of urban planners.

Ten years after his passing, his vision resonates more profoundly than ever. Proximity-based models, like the 15-minute city, are now shaping the future of urban development. Through this award, we aim to carry his vision forward.
