Redevelopment of the Palazzo Odeon in Milan

Systematica is part of the team led by Progretto CMR which works on the redevelopment of the Palazzo Odeon, to be completed by 2024. Palazzo Odeon is a historical building in the heart city center of Milan, few meters next to the Duomo, that currently hosts the cinema multiplex ‘The Space’ chain. The project envisions to reveal the beauty of the building and showcase it to a larger public by transforming it to accommodate new mixed functions with retail spaces, keeping few cinema screens in the underground level. The central space of the Palazzo Odeon, which is redesigned by Progetto CMR for the Aedison Fund and managed by DeA Capital Real Estate sgr, will host a new retail area of 5,000 m2 connected smoothly between the two levels.

The challenge of the project was to preserve the architectural value of the former building in compliance with regulatory constraints. Systematica supported the design team with a pedestrian flow analysis identifying the access strategies and the vertical / horizontal circulation to guarantee an intuitive and comfortable visitors’ experience.
