Bergamo Porta Sud Master Plan

Systematica_Bergamo Porta Sud Master Plan

The Bergamo Porta Sud Master Plan, a leading urban regeneration initiative, was selected by an internationally renowned jury among the winners of the prestigious THE PLAN Real Estate Award sponsored by THE PLAN in the Investment and Asset Management category.

This project stands out for its exceptional accessibility, innovative technology integration, and capacity to drive sustainable urban development.

Closely linked to the railway station, tram/BRT systems, and various strategic bus services and micro-mobility stations, the Bergamo Porta Sud Master Plan shapes the new urban district as a Transit-Oriented Development (TOD).

This approach, coupled with direct railway connections to Milan and Milano-Bergamo International Airport, fosters connectivity and cohesion between the historical city center and the southern neighborhood, bridging gaps created by the rail yard.

Systematica played a pivotal role in crafting the master plan’s mobility strategy,  working closely with VitaliSpa, the promoter of the urban operation, ensuring seamless transitions between diverse transport systems, and fostering community vibrancy.

The compact settlement is intricately connected to the existing urban fabric through a comprehensive and permeable road network, prioritizing walkable streets and promoting active modes of transportation over conventional private methods.

This approach aims to create a well-designed network of interconnections among a broad range of mobility services and solutions centered around the interchange hub. It contributes to the overall quality of the public realm by ensuring permeability and safety throughout the development and within surrounding urban districts.

The synergy between different elements of the project will be accentuated by a strong innovative component: accessibility to the numerous mobility services will occur through a MaaC (Mobility as a Community) platform.

The user-oriented and data-driven nature of the master plan may also foster the implementation of experimental technologies, such as on-demand autonomous driving systems, for both individual and collective means of transport.

Key Figures:

– 16,500 | administrative population of the development (residents, employees, visitors/users)

– 35,000 | all-mode trips x day (average weekday)

– 95,000 | expected total public transport daily trips of the multimodal hub (average weekday | 2030 scenario)
