Milan Malpensa Airport is becoming more connected every day thanks to optimized mobility systems.

The new bus hub and local public transport system at Terminal 1 are now operational, following the mobility guidelines we developed to improve the efficiency of the airport’s landside traffic network through integrated mobility planning and road design.

We played a key role in reshaping one of Malpensa Airport primary road assets, creating the space for a new hub serving buses, local public transport, and airport shuttle services in front of the Sheraton Hotel. The redesign also optimized passenger access areas, enhancing both operational efficiency and user experience.

Combined with its direct connection to the railway station, the area now functions as a true intermodal mobility hub. As Italy’s second-busiest airport, handling over 31 million passengers in 2025, ensuring smoother mobility flows was essential to support the airport’s future growth.

It is always rewarding to see data-driven strategies move beyond simulations and become real, functioning infrastructure that improves everyday life.

The detailed design was developed by MCI Infrastructures Engineering S.r.l. (Dr. Engr. Giovanni Felice Boneddu, Dr. Geol. Francesco Serra, Engr. Goffredo Veri, Engr. Lino Rossi, Engr. Francesco Maria Baldassari, Dr. Chiara Davite) based on our concept, with construction carried out by Impresa Pizzarotti & C. S.p.A., CPL CONCORDIA and CONSORZIO INNOVA SOC COOP.

The bus canopies was designed by Studio De Martino. Gnosis Progetti was responsible for its concept, while SAB – Architettura Ingegneria Integrata, CREW – Cremonesi Workshop, Incide Engineering, M2P S.r.l and Ing. Alessandro Marrandi developed the plan. Construction was in the hands of Impresa Pizzarotti & C. S.p.A., CPL CONCORDIA and CONSORZIO INNOVA SOC COOP.
