Sys-News_14-03-31

On February 25th and 26th in Vantaa, Finland, Systematica participated at the Steering Committee for the City Mobil 2 Project, part of the 7th Framework Program of the European Union. This meeting concluded the Phase 1 of the project and started phase 2 with public demonstrations of Automated Road Transport Vehicles.

Systematica and MLab are transport consultants for the cities of Oristano and Milan and worked together with city officials in defining the location for the demonstration, demand forecasting, service design and analysis and in the preliminary design of the required infrastructure. Automated Road Transport Vehicles (ARTS) are GPS controlled driverless vehicles with the ability to move on normal urban roads, dealing with other vehicles, pedestrians, cyclist and all the different situations of urban environment. Safety is guaranteed by distance sensors all around the vehicle that define a 1 meter safety area around the ARTS: if an object enters this area, the vehicle slows down and eventually stops. The Committee highlighted the high public exposure of Milan demonstration as a shuttle service for the 2015 Universal Exposition bus car park.
