The Adriatic-Ionian region stands as a vital crossroads between Europe and the Mediterranean, linking the Balkans to Eastern Europe and serving as a gateway for trade between Europe and the Middle East. Since the launch of the EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region (EUSAIR) in 2014, the region has been fostering greater cooperation and regional integration, unlocking new avenues for collaboration.
Systematica was entrusted with a pivotal task: to examine the region’s air transport and urban mobility systems. Our analysis not only highlighted current policies and challenges but also proposed a forward-thinking vision for interconnected and sustainable transport networks. By focusing on cleaner technologies, multimodal transport, and cross-border collaboration, we set the foundation for a future where transportation is both efficient and environmentally responsible.

Across the region, cities are making significant strides in urban mobility. Many have developed or are developing Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs), while others are advancing innovative solutions such as electrification and shared transport. Our strategy aims to address key gaps, ensuring that these systems become fully integrated and environmentally sustainable, paving the way for greener transport across urban centers.

At its core, the Master Plan seeks to eliminate barriers to mobility and enhance the flow of goods and people. By improving transport connections, the plan fosters not only regional integration but also supports economic growth, tourism, and cultural exchange.
