The Context

Riyadh is undergoing a phase of rapid transformation, driven by population growth, extensive urban expansion, and a thriving economy. Within this dynamic context, the city faces the strategic challenge of redefining its urban identity through the integration of art, culture, and high-quality public spaces.

Working on a masterplan for the Riyadh Art Program, one of the four flagship initiatives under Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, responds to this ambition by seamlessly and strategically integrating the city’s natural landscape, urban structure, historical heritage, and cultural identity.

The Program aims to shape a distinctive and recognizable urban environment while strengthening the relationship between citizens and public life. By promoting design excellence, creativity, and cultural expression, it introduces an innovative approach to community placemaking driven by collaboration, stakeholder engagement, and long-term vision.

A further layer of complexity is represented by the scale and distributed nature of the initiative. The program comprises 12 thematic sub-programs, strategically deployed across the metropolitan area, each contributing to a network of interconnected experiences that enhance accessibility, usability, and engagement for both residents and visitors.

Our Role

Systematica supports the Riyadh Art Program within the Program Management Organization (PMO), as part of a consortium led by Proger.

The company’s focus is on crowd management and mobility planning for major events, but the scope of work extends beyond traditional mobility planning to support the successful delivery of a complex, city-wide cultural program.

Key activities include:

  • Master plan review and optimization
  • Visitors forecasting and scenario analysis
  • Metropolitan-scale transport assessments
  • Traffic Impact Studies
  • Verification and validation processes
  • Flow monitoring

Through this integrated, data-driven approach, Systematica contributes to enhancing urban livability, ensuring efficient mobility systems and enabling seamless, safe experiences across Riyadh’s evolving public spaces.
